Birthday Drinks
If you're studying here in Amsterdam for a year, it's likely that you'll be celebrating your birthday at some point during your stay. So, I've compiled a list of rooftop bars, upscale cocktail bars, and some places with a more relaxed drinks & dance vibe especially for the occasion.
Cocktail Bars
1. The Flying Dutchman: Here, cocktails reflect the simplicity and precision of a perfect drink. Not into Vodka? Gin? - not a problem. With 500 spirits to choose from there's something for everyone.
2. NJOY: Flawlessly created, concocted and presented. If you're looking for more than just a drink, NJOY should be where you're headed. Their drinks are perfectly proportioned making them delicious enough that you won't want it to end. NJOY has a fairly strict dress code and is 21+, if you're coming in a big group you should book in advance.
3. Calle Ocho: They serve cocktails with only fresh ingredients and specialise in providing the finest rum and tequila. Not only this but they also have a slushy machine to make frozen Margaritas.
Casual Drinks & Dance
4. Chin Chin Club: With no better way to put it the chin chin club is 'an interpretation of a social club house'. It is home to not one, not two, but three bars, a dance floor, a restaurant and a karaoke room - what more could you want!
5. Waterkant: Situated canal-side it is the perfect summer drinks location. With benches on the waterfront and an inside dance floor, Waterkant is the definition of 'casual drinks & dance'. (they also have heaters outside for the cooler evenings)
Drinks with a view
6. SkyLounge: If a panoramic view of Amsterdams sparkling canals and twinkling city lights is what you're looking for, then SkyLounge is for you. With a DJ playing till late, it's a great place to celebrate and take in the view.
7. Skybar Madam Amsterdam: Situated in Amsterdam North (you can take a free 3 minute ferry from central station) it has a spectacular view of the rest of the city. The A'dam tower isn't only home to the Skybar but also to Europes highest swing, check it out here.
8. Volkshotel: A rooftop terrace with sunset mood lighting perfect for any occasion. Need I say more?
